Colourful Concrete in Antigua
Hey gang,
Thankyou so much for allowing me to have some time away to refresh my creative mojo. My trip to Guatemala definitely didn’t disappoint on the colour - front & I’ve since been mixing up a new range in time for the Summer collection.
The city of Antigua has beautiful colonial architecture & plants growing through the colourful concrete. It is a real treat for the eyes!
They say that art is everywhere around us, and as you can see, I was inspired by a wall!
Aren’t these colours dreamy together? I mixed layers of zesty mustard, smooth white, burnt orange, soft lilac and my favourite one of them all - plum.
I took this photo of some succulent plants that were growing in my hotel garden. If only I could of brought some of the sunshine back to England with me so that my plants would grow this big and this fast.
The streets of Antigua are cobbled EVERYWHERE so I would recommend comfortable footwear & definitely NO HIGH HEELS if you ever plan to visit!
As we already know, I’m even more obsessed with texture than I am with colour. I climbed a volcano while I was over there (I climbed two actually) and I was so very temped to keep a handful of the rock to try to recreate the air holes and the rough texture. I figured it would be illegal to bring their lava home in my suitcase, but as it happened I accidentally brought home two shoes and six socks full, because there were so many stones in my shoes after 3 days hiking!
Yes, I made it to the top! As you can see, the sunrise was pretty spectacular up above the clouds..
I wanted to keep the bright sunrise/pretty concrete wall colour palette going, but I also wanted to play around with the volcanic texture and incorporate some of that black rock, too.
This is a sample that I created and I’m still working on it, but let me know what you think?
These ones are all limited edition. As always I have handmade a small batch with each piece being completely unique in colour mix, surface pattern and texture.
I hope you don’t mind me sharing some of the beautiful things I’ve seen. The place was packed with inspiration and I have come back refreshed with lots of new ideas.
Thanks for reading and do let me know if you have any questions about the place or about my work.
Lots of love, or as they say over there, ‘con mucho carlino’…
